Cap and Trade is Crap

Cap and trade infuriates me. I think it would be fantastic to reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. Maybe global warming is real. Maybe it’s not. Maybe if it is, it doesn’t matter. All I know is if the President crams down his cap and trade to Americans then we are going to be paying much more in electricity bills. Where the hell are people going to come up with the money? We are after all in a recession.

The White House at least isn’t even pretending it isn’t going to cost money and hurt economically. Michelle Malkin reports on her blog that:

White House Office of Management and Budget Director Peter Orszag again acknowledged last week that “much of (the) costs of the plan will be passed along to consumers in the form of higher prices for energy and energy intensive goods.” The GOP puts the cost at approximately $3,100 per family a year. Team Obama promises to offset these costs with some sort of tax credit for families, but by the budget team’s own admission, families would still pay at least $500 per year in out-of-pocket increased energy costs above and beyond the credit.

Ok. I don’t believe Republicans or Democrats. The GOP has an agenda to put fear into the plan, so at first glance you would have to wonder if it would be as bad as $3,100. But the Obama administration doesn’t dispute the cost! That is a helluva tax the radical left elitists are dropping on America.

Would it not make more sense to give energy companies tax incentives to reduce emissions? Of course it would. But that is not what this is about. It’s about taxing energy. From the Heritage Foundation:

…any carbon capping plan is a costly energy tax in disguise that will raise energy prices and unemployment with little environmental benefit. In fact, White House officials recently acknowledged a cap and trade bill could generate as much as $1.9 trillion in tax revenue over eight years, which amounts to a nearly $2,000 tax every year, for eight years, for every American household.

Didn’t Obama say he would not raise taxes on the middle class? Didn’t he say he would reduce taxes for 95% of Americans? How is this possible if I’m paying extra for electricity based on his budget? Call it what you want but this is a tax. The Obama stimulus I received in my paycheck this month certainly won’t cover the cost. So net-net I am paying more in taxes.  Big surprise the top bureaucrat lied.

This has to be stopped. But all indications are is that it won’t be. President Obama said last week that the cap-and-trade component of his budget is “nonnegotiable.”
