Democrats Say Clunkers Not to Be Used For Charities or the Poor

This really pissed me off. Senator Tom Coburn introduced a proposal to assist poor families and charities by giving them the clunkers traded in. Sounds like a no brainer to me. If anything I could see heartless Republicans voting against this measure. I mean, how could a lefty bleeding heart liberal think this is a bad thing? Well apparently they do. Un-freakin-believable. The measure was voted down by 56-41. All but three Democrats voted against it. Two Republicans vote against it.

So it is still better to take these vehicles and destroy them. To crush them without salvaging working parts. To crush them into scrap metal. Sell the scrap metal to China. Then have China send it back to us in other goods. That is fantastic!

Why the hell could someone or some organization not get some use from these. The hypocrisy is unbelievable in Washington. If there is any better proof that bi-partisanship is dead I don’t know what it is. Any time the Republicans create a proposal. An amendment to a bill. It is virtually always striked out. The Democrats whined for weeks about how the Republicans were the “party of no”. Seems to me the Democrats are no better. They could be helping Americans but they would rather continue the same-ol’ same-ol’ they whined about for 8 years. If the Republicans came up with the idea then it will get a no vote. No matter how much sense it makes. Good strategy Dems! Change we can believe in.

Here is a a snip from the proposal:

“(II) certifies to the Secretary that the donated vehicle will be used by the organization to further its exempt purpose or function, including to provide transportation of individuals for health care services, education, employment, general use, or other purpose relating to the provision of assistance to those in need, including sales to raise financial support for the organization; or

“(ii) a family that does not have sufficient income to afford, but can demonstrate a need for, an automobile.”.

Michelle Malkin’s site has a list of the yays and nays.

Whatever guys. The American people are getting sick of the lack of common sense coming from both sides.

Isn’t it true that if the senate voted to pass any of these amendments, including this one, that it would in effect stop the cash for clunker program. I believe these self righteous senators know that if the bill was changed, it could not become law because it differed from the cogressional bill. Therefore the house members would have to come back and vote on the new bill. I wonder what that would have cost in airline fares and other expenses? Maybe these senators could just donate their limos to the poor and get themselves fuel efficient transpotation.

I think Coburn simply wanted to out the hypocrisy in the Senate. The program sucks and is simply another bailout for the unions, car dealers and care manufacturers.
