Is the GOP Party Really in Tatters?
All week and really ever since Obama’s sweeping victory, we’ve been treated to the media describing the GOP as in tatters. Even the Republicans are self-loathing, agreeing with every characterization of the media elite of the downfall of Republicans. I find all this curious.
It’s not like the Democrats have this huge bench of stalwart players. After the actor, media king and head celebrity bureaucrat, President Obama, who exactly stacks up among Democrats? Obama is the shining star. The media has worked their magic and the lemmings have followed. The campaign he waged to become president will go down in history as one of the greatest. Probably a model for future elections.
The GOP has a lot of grassroot and back to basics work in front of them. No doubt about it. But it’s not like there is an Obama in every district. I think 2010 could be more interesting than anyone will give credit. Particularly as the media and liberals continue to dismiss the Tea Party supporters. This has the potential to be something big. It’s not funded, so far, by any political group like Moveon.org or ACORN is. It’s just people with integrity that want accountability and responsibility. If the liberals continue their clueless spending, borrowing and taxing then their agenda could thankfully come to a screeching hault by 2012. And in doing so I think the conservatives will also have the means to redefine themselves.
The GOP doesn’t have a charismatic individual like Obama. But what they can have is a foundation of liberty, accountability, fiscal responsibility and adherence to the Constitution. maybe next time we decide to vote for a President we will care more about substance than style.
