Obama Throws a Hissy Fit
Obama, speaking to about 200 House Democrats at their annual retreat at the Kingsmill Resort and Spa, dismissed Republican attacks against the massive spending in the stimulus. His whining contained blame that we should get used to thrown back at Bush.
“When you start hearing arguments, on the cable chatter, just understand a couple of things,” he said. “No. 1, when they say, ‘Well, why are we spending $800 billion [when] we’ve got this huge deficit?’ – first of all, I found this deficit when I showed up, No. 1″
Well first of all, the Democrats were in the majority of Congress through it all and could have thrown up some kind of roadblock to the spending but did not. As a matter of fact I believe it was Rep. Frank that spearheaded the cache of cash given to TARP.
Obama called Pelosi “a rock” and “the great speaker of the House.” And he said that House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey and other House chairmen had acted with “discipline” in passing their version of the stimulus bill.
Really? With all the pork. I don’t see how $650 million for digital TV coupons will create jobs. $34 million to renovate the Department of Commerce headquarters will do what for the econmy exactly? $44 million for repairs to the Department of Agriculture headquarters will help me build wealth and prosperity how?
Pelosi created this spending bill with the dreams of transferring capital from this country to the federal government. The Democrats who created this plan are simply thinking for themselves and how they can create a bigger and better government. Not how they can truly stimulate the economy. A little common sense would be useful in this situation but it appears that we will have none of that.
I am all for stimulating the economy. Most economists agree that we need to spend our way out of this mess. In doing so we need to do it for two reason: housing and jobs. Nothing else should be considered or should matter. Let’s stabilize what got us into this mess which is housing and also help people keep their job or get employed. The Democrats have this all wrong. The Republicans are on the right side of this. Polls show that only 37% of Americans want the government to pull the trigger on this mess as it stands.
Nancy Pelosi is destroying this country. She does not know what she is doing. And by blindly following her, The President is going to watch his popularity circle the bowl. The President said he wanted to do what is good for the country. I’m waiting.
Responding to a question from Pennsylvania Rep. Chaka Fattah about that balance, Obama said, “We’ve inherited a mess. It’s our job to clean it up.”
I wonder if this is what it’s going to be like for 4 years. Obama failing and fumbling his way through non-leadershiup and blaming Bush. Is that what leadership is? I don’t think so.
