Tea Party Aftermath: Local Success. The Media Chooses to Ignore and Belittle
“The Republicans are going to have to do more than their standard rhetoric about taxes in order to be successful. They need some new ideas,” said Brian Schatz, chairman of the Hawaii Democratic Party. “It’s a tired old line of attack.”
The belittling continued all day on blogs and in the media. Those that want bigger government and more spending continue to ignore the protests. My local news station barely gave the protests a single minute in their TV coverage. This morning NPR said that only a couple of thousand showed up. The numbers were estimated to be larger than that. NPR also said that a few hundred protests were held across the country. That number is clearly wrong as well.
The majority of the people in attendance of these Tea Parties couldn’t give two shits about Republicans or Democrats. If people bothered to go to them or watch the limited coverage on TV you would have seen that the anger is across both parties. There is no difference between them. But you saw at the protest the difference between liberals and fiscal conservatives.
Liberals want to justify Obama and Pelosi’s spending by saying that they inherited a mess from Bush. Fine. They did. But how does that make doubling down on the debt and deficit right? You can’t be outraged and say Bush was wrong when Obama is doing the exact same thing times two and gets your undying support!?
I hope that something positive comes from this. I don’t think for a minute too many politicians were paying attention. In a perfect world there would have been a new party created from this movement. A fiscally conservative, constitutionally abiding, values and priciple following, party.
As far as the quote above from Shatz. It’s typical. The Republicans do need new ideas. Actually he is 100% correct. They need to stop acting like liberals. Many, many people in this country do not care for liberal principles. Bush was not a conservative. It’s amazing to me why the liberals didn’t like him considering how much money he spent. Again, they love that Obama is spending trillions so they should have embraced Bush as well. The Republicans need to distance themselves from liberals and socialism and tyranny and try to steer Americans back to their rugged individualism and self determination. If they don’t hopefully a new party can emerge that will offer REAL change.

Here’s a quote from our local paper and Governor Jennifer Granholm: Granholm told reporters she didn’t believe the protests represented a genuine grassroots uprising. “I think they’re orchestrated by a certain slice of the far right. And it’s been well documented that they’ve been paid for by certain folks who have an interest in doing that,” she said. “People are much more concerned right now about getting this economy on track and making sure that people get jobs and that is what the recovery act is all about.”
With this woman in charge it’s a miracle any of us here in Michigan still has a job.
